This is the new 500 Cabriolet, a model that promises to have style-conscious buyers reaching for their cheque books when it goes on sale in 2008.

Drawing on Fiat's rich history of great small cars, the upcoming model is set to introduce a whole new group of young buyers to the brand - as well as appeal­ing to fans of the original.

With the eagerly awaited 500 due for launch late in 2007, and talk of an Abarth performance version following, the new drop-top will complete the line-up. As with the hatch, it will mix afford­able pricing with head-turning looks.

As you can see from our pictures, the Cabriolet faithfully updates the cheeky original, keeping all its trademark styling cues and using a hood that maintains the cute, curvy profile.

Based on a shortened version of the Panda’s platform, the 500 Cabriolet – along with the hatchback – will be built alongside Ford's Ka replacement at Fiat's factory in Poland.

The Fiat is a strict two-seater, so there will be room behind the cockpit for the folding roof and a useful luggage area. Up front, expect a metal-coloured dash with a large central speedo and leather trim on top-of-the-range models, while buyers will be able to personalise their interior from the range of different colour and equipment options on offer.

As for engine options, power will come from 1.1-litre and 1.2-litre petrol units, as well as the impressive 1.3-litre Multijet diesel.

However, a new range of motors, including a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol with upwards of 120bhp and a new 1.6-litre turbodiesel, is likely to arrive in 2009. Manual and automatic transmissions will also be available.

While Fiat has yet to confirm the 500 Cabriolet will make production, bosses have privately admitted it has always been in the pipeline. And they are also believed to be considering other open-top concepts, including a car featuring removable roof panels and a model with a full-length canvas sunroof.

La capitale del Portogallo è una delle capitali più affascinanti d'Europa.

Sicuramente, per poter comprendere lo "spirito" della città, bisogna addentrarsi nelle strette vie del Bairro Alto, la città alta, una delle poche zone sopravvissute pressoché indenni al disastroso terremoto del 1755. Arrampicandovi per le stradine in salita (utilizzando magari uno degli elevador, le funicolari), lasciandovi alle spalle gli affollati negozi ed il viavai di turisti che regnano nel Rossio, potrete respirare la vera "atmosfera" ricca di contrasti di Lisbona: camminando per i tortuosi vicoli (a volte si può essere assaliti quasi da un senso di claustrofobia) troverete grandi palazzi interamente rivestiti dagli azulejos, le caratteristiche piastrelle ispirate alla tradizione araba che formano grandi mosaici a tema prevalentemente marino, affiancati a case totalmente lasciate all'abbandono, alcune addirittura pericolanti; al termine di incombenti viottole si apriranno larghi spiazzi, la maggior parte dei quali offrono notevoli punti panoramici sulla città; accanto a negozi più o meno recenti e di uso comune troverete antiche botteghe o buie taverne dove la sera si canta il fado.
Per capire quale labirinto sia il Bairro dovrete salire sulla collina di fronte, quella del quartiere povero dell' Alfama, dove sorge il Castelo de Sao Jorge, antica postazione di osservazione. Qui la vista spazia, oltre che sul vicino Bairro Alto, su buona parte della città e dei suoi dintorni e sul fiume Tejo, sul quale si staglia il profilo del Ponte 25 de Abril, molto simile al Golden Gate americano assieme alla sagoma a forma di croce della grande statua del Cristo Rei, costruita sulla sponda opposta del fiume.
Tra le due colline sorge la Baixa, il quartiere commerciale interamente costruito dal marchese di Pombal dopo il grande terremoto, nettamente in contrasto sia per la disposizione urbanistica che per lo stile degli edifici con il Bairro Alto e l'Alfama.
La Baixa rappresenta ancora oggi la zona commerciale della città, e qui potrete trovare numerosi negozi e boutiques alla moda, l'ideale se avete intenzione di fare shopping.
Sulla riva destra del fiume Tejo, leggermente in periferia, sorge il quartiere di Belem, una tappa obbligata per ogni turista. Qui infatti si trova il famoso Padrao do Doscombrimentos, il monumento a forma di prua di nave che celebra le grandi scoperte delle esplorazioni marine. Vi assicuriamo che lascia veramente allibiti per le dimensioni, anche se sul posto, per mancanza di altri riferimenti, possono sfuggire all'occhio (ma provate a fare una foto che inquadri l'intera costruzione e possibilmente qualche persona che dia l'idea delle proporzioni!). Fermatevi anche a dare un'occhiata al planisfero che decora lo spiazzo vicino al monumento e che riporta tutte le tappe delle successive esplorazioni.
Sempre a Belem si trova la Torre, che ha la caratteristica di sorgere su un isolotto in prossimità della riva; la Torre infatti serviva come punto d'avvistamento e l'isolotto si trovava in mezzo al fiume, ma col terremoto del 1755 si è avvicinato alla sponda.
La Torre, assieme al Mosteiro dos Jeronimos, altra perla di Belem, è una dei migliori esempi architettonici dello stile manuelino, lo stile caratteristico delle opere rinascimentali del Portogallo.
Sempre sulla riva destra del Tejo ma dalla parte opposta della città rispetto a Belem si trova il nuovissimo quartiere dell'Expo, interamente costruito in occasione dell'Esposizione Universale del 1998 dove prima sorgeva una zona industriale abbandonata. Nelle intenzioni dei progettisti, evidentemente, l'Esposizione doveva colpire il visitatore sotto ogni aspetto: qui infatti le soluzioni architettonicamente innovative si sprecano, a cominciare dalla linea metropolitana rossa, anch'essa appositamente costruita in occasione della manifestazione. In effetti, passeggiando per i vialetti, non si rimane annoiati osservando le diverse costruzioni ed, in lontananza, il ponte Vasco da Gama che attraversa il Tejo, uno dei più lunghi in Europa. Ma anche qui siamo stati colti da un senso di disagio: il complesso in fin dei conti è un quartiere fieristico, pensato per accogliere un gran numero di persone in occasione di un evento particolare; trovando poca gente, vedendo quasi tutto chiuso, ne nasce un'impressione di "day-after".
Vi consigliamo comunque di farvi un giro, se non altro per approfittare del centro commerciale o per visitare l' Oceanarium, uno dei più grandi acquari europei.

Terminato il tour per la città, vi suggeriamo di fare una gita al mare.
La costa si raggiunge facilmente con un viaggio in treno della durata di circa una mezzora, partendo dalla stazione di Cais do Sodrè e scendendo a Cascais, rinomato centro balneare situato a quattro passi da Estoril, località famosa per il suo casinò e il suo circuito automobilistico.
Da qui si prosegue a piedi, attraversando Cascais e raggiungendo lo splendido litorale, dove l' Atlantico si infrange violentemente sull'imponente scogliera, in alcuni tratti alta più di cento metri!
L'atmosfera qui è veramente carica di suggestioni, specie se, contemplando il magnifico tramonto che tinge di rosa le brulle rocce, si pensa che per secoli la gente che abitava questi luoghi non ha mai potuto sapere cosa ci fosse dall'altra parte di quella vastità d'acqua a cui da sempre era abituata.
Se avete voglia di camminare ancora un po', proseguendo verso nord per qualche chilometro lungo la costa si raggiunge Cabo da Roca, l'estremo occidentale del continente europeo.
Sempre con il treno, questa volta partendo dalla stazione di Oriente, si raggiunge in un paio d'ore il piccolo borgo di Tomar, dove l'antica fortezza dei Templari domina dall'alto di una collina circondata di boschi. Anche questo luogo è molto suggestivo, per l'importanza storica che rappresenta, e la bellezza del convento fortificato risalta maggiormente nella cornice dei suoi giardini a terrazze. Dall'interno della chiesa dei Templari, che dovrebbe riprodurre il Tempio di Gerusalemme, si può ammirare la grande vetrata decorata a motivi marini, altro famoso esempio di stile manuelino.
Se la giornata è limpida, facendo il giro delle mura esterne si può ammirare un vasto panorama, oltre le cime degli alberi del bosco sottostante, anch'esso visitabile passeggiando per i numerosi vialetti.

Italian lingerie has been famous for generations for its fine quality of manufacturing and materials. Soft, luxurious materials, pretty colors, handmade embroidery and fine Italian lace - all of these can be found at Italian lingerie stores. Three companies have especially impressive collections at the moment - Guia la Bruna, Flora Lastriaolli, Cosabella and Intimissimi.

Guia la Bruna

A young designer, Guia comes from a lingerie manufacturing background. Her grandfather started the business in Turin in 1935 and Guia liked to wander around the many floors and corridors of the factory when she grew up. She inherited her family's artistic talent and studied in Paris at the Ecole Nationale Superieure des Arts Decoratifs - which is perhaps why her lingerie designs show a strong French influence.

Guia, who has been featured on the TV series, Sex and the City, wanted to create a retro look that was modern. In an interview with Danae Shell, the editor of the lingerie website, Knickersblog, she said that she likes 'strasses, vintage laces and velvet ribbons'. (Strasses are items of jewelry made of glass that looks like diamonds, for example, rhinestones and the beautiful Swarovski crystals.) Her favorite material to work with is soft, silk muslin.

The designer's latest collection, which can be seen on her website, Guialabruna.com, features soft, shimmering materials; Victorian-style chemises; delicate floral prints; and feminine ribbon decorations.

Danae Shell called her collections 'a divine balance of classic lines and modern fabrics.'

Flora Lastraioli

This family company originated at the beginning of the nineteenth century in Florence when their great-great grandmother, Amalia, was appointed the 'official embroideress' at the court of grand-duke Leopoldo of Tuscany. The company still specializes in embroidery and also uses 'precious Swiss laces...volants, ruches, silk satins and flimsy georgettes', according to its website. It also uses the very best materials to make its lovely lingerie, including 'pure cotton muslin and voile, polyester, linen and jersey' as well as pure silk satin and georgette.

The company's new collection is divided into two sections - satin and silk, and cotton and jersey. The satin and silk section includes long transparent robes, silk and georgette nightdresses in pastel colors, and sexy wine-colored camisoles with feminine lace finishings. The cotton and jersey robes and nightdresses are just as beautiful in their pastel colors of pink, light blue, and white.

Cosabella

Cosabella means 'beautiful thing' and their lingerie certainly fits that description! Founded in 1983 by married couple, Ugo and Valeria Compello, this brand has its headquarters in Miami, Florida and is manufactured in Italy. Favored by movie stars and pop singers, Cosabella is renowned for its lovely lingerie and swimwear, which is also comfortable. It has been featured in many movies and television serials. Jennifer Garner, for example, wore the Ceylon range in the movie, Daredevil, and Nicolette Sheridan wore one of their pristine white camisoles in the popular TV series, Desperate Housewives.

The Soire collection which is made of the finest Italian tulle is probably the most popular. Cosabella's motto is 'Freedom of Color' and this collection is famous for its vibrant colors - there are over 45 different colors. The pieces include seamless hot pants, thongs, bras and camisoles, all in simple but sexy styles. Cosabella's famous Soire thong won the most comfortable thong award from In Style Magazine.
